Our Ocean Views have Improved with Age!

York Harbor Maine. Not too many Inns can claim they have a view that "got better with age." But that is exactly what happened at the York Harbor Inn.

Guests of the York Harbor Inn today can probably not imagine the Inn without its outstanding ocean view and the beautiful park grounds to explore along the coasts edge. But the Inn did not always enjoy the stunning oceanfront view it has today.

Until the summer of 1998, 11 oceanfront "cottages" obscured the Inn's expansive ocean vista. Then, thanks to a Will written in 1929 by Hartley Mason, the "cottages" that he built were removed and a park was created for all to enjoy. Mason's Will stipulated that when his last remaining heir died, the cottages were to be removed. Nearly 80 years later, with little fanfare, that dream became a reality as his oceanfront homes were sold, dismantled and carefully removed by architectural salvage companies.

"It was an exciting time for us," comments Garry Dominguez, Innkeeper of the York Harbor Inn. "We knew when we purchased the Inn nearly 20 years previously (in 1979) that someday those houses may come down but to watch it actually happen and to witness the Park being created and our ocean vistas opening up was thrilling. Now our Restaurant with its wall of windows and many rooms from the Inn offer unobstructed ocean vistas."

The York Harbor Inn is located in York's Historic District and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. "We have taken immense pride and care as we have renovated and restored The York Harbor Inn over the past 26 years," commented Dominguez.
